Miniature Donkey Foals of 2013
Elms Farm Miniature Donkeys

Miniature Donkey Foals - the Ultimate "Warm Fuzzies"

Miniature donkeys are among the most adorable creatures, and miniature donkey foals are the cutest, most adorable of all. While there is not a "miniature donkey for sale" sign on every mini donkey foal, we thought you would enjoy seeing them all.

These miniature donkey foals are the result of thoughtful breeding of our quality, registered miniature donkey jacks and jennets. In order to produce miniature donkeys of the highest quality, each mating is carefully planned to strengthen the characteristics of the parents. If you have specific interest in a particular miniature donkey foal on the way or one on this page, please let us know. We invite you to visit our donkey brood jennet page where we list which jennet is bred to which jack and the approximate due date.

Dark Brown Wooly Jennet
Birth: 7-20-13
MDR #pending

Sire:  GJR Little Red Hairy, 27.75" Red Wooly Jack
Grand Sire:   MGF Little Pink Harry is 30.5" Red/Gray & White Spotted
Grand Dam:  CP's Millimeter, Dark Brown

Dam:  Heiken's Ark Anneke LB, 32" Brown and White Spotted Wooly Jennet
     Grand Sire:
 L.U.A. Maxx's Little Buckaroo, 30 3/8" Black
     Grand Dam:
Gardner's Anna B., 32.25" Gray & White Spot

Here is a lovely dark brown wooly jennet, similar to her 2012 full sister The Elms Anneliese, but in a richer dark brown color.  Little Red Hairy throws a wonderful, outgoing disposition to his foals, and Annabelle has this. She has grown a lot of long hair this winter, so we think she will be a wooly. Both her parents are wooly, and are not related to the major lines from MGF.

Frosted Spotted Wooly Jack

Sire:  MGF Little Pink Harry is 30.5" Red/Gray & White Spotted
     Grand Sire:   CP's Harry, 31" Gray-Dun
Grand Dam:  MGF Venus Nasturtium 91, 33" Brown/Slate White Spotted

Dam:  The Elms Persistent Whisper, 33.25" Dark Brown, Wooly Carrier
     Grand Sire:
 MGF Black Knight, 32.5" Black
Grand Dam:  MGF Whisper Me A Secret, 33.25" Dark Grey & White Spotted

I wasn't sure what to call this little fellow when he was born, just kept saying he was a frosted jack. So, his name, for now, is Jack Frost. His grand dam MGF Whisper Me a Secret is a very wooly jennet we exported, and we kept her daughter, The Elms Persistent Whisper, sired by Black Knight, in our breeding program. Persistent Whisper is a wooly carrier, and she gave it to this little foal. He has masses of long crinkly hair, a texture similar to Miss Milano, one of our absolute best wooly jennets. This will be the last foal for Persistent Whisper, as she has sustained a leg injury, and needs to be kept on the skinny side, to keep weight off her leg. NIce built little jack, staying small. Looks like his coloration will be similar to his sire, Little Pink Harry, who is red and white in the summer, and shows more gray and white in the winter. Always interesting to see how the colors work in the spots. We will take more pictures of Jack Frost when spring finally arrives here in Ohio.

     Grand Sire:

     Grand Dam:
MGF Dancing Hooves, Brown & White Spotted

Very pretty white spotted jennet. Small at birth, and staying small, she measured 27.5' at 8 months. Dancing on Air is best buddies with The Elms Apple Butter. Her frosted coat, and lovely dark eyes, make this jennet rather special.

Dancing on Air adds a lot of variety to the pasture. Her color changes from frosted white in her winter coat, to a rich red roan in her summer coat. I expect her coat color to return to mostly white this winter, but we will see. It will be fun to watch the change.

OMG! Drop dead gorgeous dark red jennet. Look at that intense color coming in. I can't wait to see what she looks like when she sheds completely this summer. Little Gem is what we have been breeding for for a long time, with high quality conformation, great temperament, and beautiful color. Straight, square, and flashy! 3 generations of Elms Farm Herd Sires on her sire's side, along with a number of truly great donkeys on both sides.

MGF Whispering Rose Y458, 31" Black w/Cross

Here is a little love of a long haired miniature donkey. Wooly Mina is out of our super long haired jennet, The Elms Wooly Bear, and sired by MGF Little Pink Harry, one of the early wooly herd sires at MGF. She has a marvelous temperament, and I just love all her hair. She is dark red, with a big star. Wooly Mina has a smooth, well filled out body, wide chest, stocky structure, straight back line, very good conformation overall. This winter she has piled on the hair, and we will take fresh pictures of her soon, in her full wooly coat. Her dam, Wooly Bear holds on to her long hair through the entire year, a rare trait in the wooly donkeys.

MGF Venus Apple Annie, 33" Brown

The Elms Apple Butter is a beautiful ornament for the pasture. Her completely white coat is because she is completely spotted. She is basically one big spot, and underneath it are red genetics. She has lovely dark eyes under that shaggy hair. Her mother is our gorgeous, white wooly Apple Blossom. Her sire is a very small, outcross long haired jack, and Apple Butter is his first foal. Very nice foal to start with. Feb 28, 2013, she measured 26 1/4". Sweet natured little jenny, Apple Butter greets me each morning with a darling little bray.

     Grand Dam:
MGF Venus Thrivas 874, 32" Dark Brown/Gray & White Spotted

Extraordinary long haired jack, this donkey  has stocky build, a beautiful spot pattern, and gorgeous long hair. He is a super wooly. We kept his half brother in our breeding program, The Elms Orion, and exported his half sister to Europe. Tried Tell Me a Tale on a different wooly jack for this 2013 foal, and really like what we got. He is not related to the blood lines of Stolli, or Absolut. If you are looking for a quality spotted jack for a long haired breeding program, this fellow has great potential.

     Grand Sire:

     Grand Dam:
Sun Creek Penny, 33.25" Black

Very lovely black jennet foal. Stocky, smooth, and compact. Everyone picks her out of the group of foals. She is a Babe!
These latest pictures taken on weaning day. Babe's foal coat has turned a rich auburn color, where she still retains it. Her mother also turns an auburn color in the winter, and many of the best black donkeys do this. The new hair growing in on her face, neck and legs shows her rich black color. There is probably a cross, but it is sure hard to find. Quite stocky, alert, and well built. Very lovely jenny, with presence that should do well in the show ring.

This jennet is built! She will not be a wooly, as you can see she has shed her coat naturally. She has a great build and beautiful markings.

We originally called her The Babe, but her new owners asked her to be renamed Lola, also a lovely name.

These pictures taken of Daisy as a yearling show that she has a longer and thicker than average coat, which comes from her wooly sire, Little Red Hairy. Looks like she will have a very rich dark red color, look at the side of her neck and her ears. We will know more later this summer. She may stay wooly, and certainly could go into a wooly breeding program. The worn spot on her neck is because she was constantly reaching through a gate to graze grass on the other side. Now that I have turned all the young jennets into a lush summer pasture, she will stop rubbing her hair off on the gate!

Oops! We went to a wedding last year, and when we came home, Little Red Hairy had limbo-ed under the fence and had spent a happy couple days with all the open jennets. Hmmm,  I spent a lot of time in the next few weeks watching to see who was coming in season, as there had to be a cause. Well, Red Hot Roxie was a hot little jenny that weekend, and got pregnant at 2. We generally start breeding at 3. Roxie is doing a great job with this very nice little jennet foal, she's a daisy all right. So we had to name her Oops A Daisy! Daisy is straight as can be, and is a clear red color, somewhere between her sire and dam. Nice foal, even if she came a year early!

When we bought Bold Promises at the McRobert's dispersal sale, I asked her for a black and white jennet  foal someday, and she delivered, As Promised, the next year. It turns out she already had a black and white jennet foal inside her. During the weeks before the sale, the jacks and jennets at MGF were only separated by electric wire fencing, and there were many jacks with interest in the jennets. About the only thing we know about the sire is that he is not a wooly, and he had great conformation. As Promised is a beautifully built jennet, stocky, straight, and pretty as can be. 29" at 12 1/2 months. You can see in these pictures taken early May that she is shedding out very dark.

A Love of a little donkey, Beau is a gorgeously marked spotted jack. He is developing lots of hair, and has a marvelous friendly personality, all on a correct, stocky frame. Really like his spotted color pattern. These first pictures show him a few days old. More pictures will come when his long hair is more developed.

Beau looks like he will not be a wooly donkey, as he is shedding quite a lot now. That's nice, as his spots stand out better, and he is a beautiful spotted jack. He has great conformation, nice stocky build, and a good temperament. He will be sized right for a driving donkey. We have decided to geld him at weaning. Because he is so pretty, his price will be $800, which includes his gelding surgery.

Darling! Singalong had a beautiful bold spotted jennet to start our foaling season! She already has fluffy bangs, and she is not dry yet. Her mother has very good quality long hair, so does her sire, so she will be a wooly for sure. Look for more photos to come when she is dry, and fluffy.

Sing Song is going to be a super woolly jenny. Her hair falls in locks already, at 4 days old when these pictures were taken. She will also have stocky structure.

Sing Song is super wooly, as this picture from October 28 shows. Her color right now is a rich medium brown, but as her foal coat is bleached from the sun, she may be darker next year. Nice jennet, well built and stocky, and covered with fluffy hair!
