The Elms Farm has a breeding program aimed at specific objectives.  By striving to breed the excellently conformed sorrel and dark donkeys with good dispositions, we concentrate our efforts on producing top donkeys.  Even the miniature donkey field is too broad to be able to cover the entire color spectrum well.  Naturally, we hope to interest you in one of our quality miniature donkeys.  However, if you come to us seeking a miniature donkey outside our breeding objectives, we'll refer you to another breeder.  We realize we can't be all things to all people.

We study the genealogy of the miniature donkey gene pool specific to our breeding objectives.  This allows us to identify and select miniature donkeys from top bloodlines.  We carefully choose our brood stock from these lines to produce top quality animals.

We consider all aspects of conformation, lineage, disposition, and temperament in our evaluation of potential breeding stock.  This includes not only the individual donkeys we select for breeding, but also their forebears.

We travel across North America to personally examine "anchor stock" for specific miniature donkey bloodlines.  By viewing key individuals personally, we learn what to expect, and not to expect, from that bloodline.

If you love sorrels, consider us as your source.  Our large, sorrel breeding herd has multiple representatives from at least 3 of the strongest sorrel bloodlines. Most of our sorrel donkeys have several generations of sorrels on both parental sides.  This lets us breed to concentrate the strong sorrel coloration.  It also allows us to cross breed these lines to produce sorrel donkeys with balanced genetics.  Few breeders have as diverse a sorrel herd.

Our donkeys are hand raised and are handled daily.  They are current on vaccinations, worming, and hoof trims.  We have many positive comments from other experienced breeders on the quality of care and the environment our donkeys enjoy.  We are happy to share our experiences in this area with you.
